  Specific Volunteer Opportunites

Position: Crisis Counselor/Shelter Advocate
Supervisor: Director, PCCC
Responsibilities: Provide crisis intervention; a non-judgmental, listening ear; information and referrals to persons calling on crisis hotline. Able to support victims of crime in the shelter through one-on-one advocacy, short and long term goal setting, and networking with local service providers to help client work toward self-sufficiency. Focus is on the client's strengths. Knowledge of Victim Compensation Program, criminal justice system, and Victim Rights Act necessary.
Time Required: Crisis Hotline: Rotate on-call schedule, two days per month.
Shelter Advocate: Minimum 4 hours per week. Days and times may vary depending on clients' schedule and needs.
Length of Commitment: 1 year
Minimum Age: 21 years
Qualifications: Must pass Criminal Background check and Child Registry check
Caring, non-judgmental attitude
Background or experience in human services or criminal justice a plus
Must have proof of driver's license and insurance if transporting clients.
Work/Physical Environment: Work either at the Crisis Center or from the volunteer's own home. (First 10-15 hours must be completed in the Crisis Center)

Training Provided: The volunteer will participate in a 20-hour training program. In-service trainings on special topics will be held periodically to keep the volunteer up-to-date on necessary information and skills. The first 10-15 hours of service will be completed in the Crisis Center office with supervision.
Evaluation: After the first three months, the volunteer will fill out an evaluation of the volunteer program, and the volunteer's supervisor will fill out an evaluation on the volunteer. Verbal evaluations will be done every three months. A full evaluation will be done at the end of each year.

Position: Database Coordinator
Supervisor: Director, PCCC
Responsibilities: Develop and maintain a database to keep statistics on clients. Gather statistics for quarterly reports.
Time Required: Minimum 3 hours per week
Length of Commitment: 1 year
Minimum Age: 18 years
Qualifications: Must pass basic criminal background check.
Computer skills required, familiar with MS Office and experience with database programs.
Organized and detail-oriented.
Able to work around interruptions and to meet deadlines.
Work/Physical Environment: At the Crisis Center and/or from the volunteer's own home.
Benefits: Assist families and individuals in our community who are in crisis.

Play a vital role in keeping the Crisis Center organized, funded and running smoothly.
Training Provided: The volunteer may participate (as needed) in the in-service trainings on special topics, which are held periodically, to keep them up-to-date on necessary information and skills.
Evaluation: After the first three months, the volunteer will fill out an evaluation of the volunteer program, and the volunteer's supervisor will fill out an evaluation on the volunteer. Verbal evaluations will be done every three months. A full evaluation will be done at the end of each year.

Position: Donation Coordinator
Supervisor: Director, PCCC
Responsibilities: Coordinate with the Director and network with community businesses and organizations to locate needed donation items for clients. Organize donations received by the Crisis Center - distributing items to clients and organizing items in limited storage space. Coordinate with the Director to find homes for surplus items.
Time Required: Minimum 3 hours per week. The number of hours per week may vary depending on when donations arrive.
Length of Commitment: 1 year
Minimum Age: 18 years
Qualifications: Must pass a basic criminal background check.
Organized and detail-oriented.
Comfortable dealing with people in crisis and working around interruptions.
Must be able to lift bags/boxes full of donations.
Own car and ability to pick up donations in the community (when necessary) would be helpful.

Time Required: Minimum 3 hours per week. Days and times can vary depending on clients' schedule and needs.
Length of Commitment: 1 year

Qualifications: Must pass Criminal Background check and Child Registry check

Position: Legal Advocate/Lawyer
Supervisor: Director, PCCC
Responsibilities: Legal Advocate: Assist clients who have legal questions regarding divorce, child custody, restraining orders, etc. Support clients by accompanying them to court during these processes. Advocate to appropriate community resources for the client when necessary. Organize a monthly legal clinic for the community to provide information on domestic violence, divorce, child custody, restraining orders, etc.
Lawyer: Any of the above when possible. Attend monthly legal clinics to answer legal questions. Represent Crisis Center clients in court pro-bono when possible.
Time Required: The number of hours per week, days and times will vary depending on the needs of the clients.
Legal Advocate: minimum 3 hours per week
Lawyer: minimum 3 hours per month for the clinic (more if available to help in other areas)
Length of Commitment: 1 year
Minimum Age: 21 years
Qualifications: Must pass Criminal Background check and Child Registry check
Ability and desire to help people in need.

Time Required: The number of hours per week will vary depending on the needs of the shelter. A flexible schedule or willingness to work around the client’s schedule would be helpful.
Length of Commitment: 1 year

Time Required: The number of hours per week will vary depending on the needs of the clients. A flexible schedule or willingness to work around the client’s schedule would be helpful.
Length of Commitment: 1 year

Responsibilities: Provide administrative support in the office for the director – organizing the file system, updating resources, typing, coordinating meetings, answering phones, writing and distributing press releases, creating posters and flyers and other projects as needed.
Time Required: Minimum 4 hours per week

Position: Special Needs Assistants (On-call Client Support)
Supervisor: Director, PCCC
Responsibilities: The volunteer will choose one (or more) of the following on-call positions based on their personal skills and/or desire to support shelter residents:
  • Transportation to appointments - Assisting clients (without cars or who's cars are being serviced or are not in good condition) with transportation to appointments - medical, social services, court, job interviews, etc. Many appointments will be along the 285 corridor, some may be as far as Denver.
  • Pet Foster Care (large and small animals) - Taking in a client's pet while they are in shelter. Pets may range in size from a Goldfish to a Great Dane. The volunteer will let staff know which animals they can or cannot foster. Foster care could last anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months depending on the needs of the client and the abilities of the volunteer.
  • Mechanical work on cars - Assist clients with mechanical needs ranging from oil changes to much greater needs. Any level of skill would be appreciated.
  • Maintenance around the shelter - Help staff and residents with maintenance projects around the shelter. These projects may range from changing light bulbs to plumbing.
  • Other - Let us know what skills we missed that you would like to utilize in order to assist our clients.
Time Required: The number of hours per week will vary depending on the needs of the clients. A flexible schedule or willingness to work around the client=s schedule would be helpful.

For transportation assistants, a driver's license and vehicle are required.
Work/Physical Environment: Location will vary depending on the job - volunteer's vehicle, home, place of business or the Crisis Center.

For Pet Foster Parents - Gain a new best friend!
Training Provided: The volunteer will participate in a 20-hour training program. In-service trainings on special topics will be held periodically to keep the volunteer up-to-date on necessary information and skills.
Evaluation: After the first three months, the volunteer will fill out an evaluation of the volunteer program, and the volunteer's supervisor will fill out an evaluation on the volunteer. Verbal evaluations will be done every three months. A full evaluation will be done at the end of each year.

Position: Party Planner
Supervisor: Director, PCCC
Responsibilities: Plan birthday and holiday celebrations for PCCC clients. This may include: coordinating with clients to plan birthday parties for their children, baking birthday cakes and holiday goodies, working with the donation coordinator to locate appropriate birthday/holiday gifts, plan holiday parties and occasional parties just for fun, etc.
Time Required: Hours will vary depending on the birthdays/holidays happening each month.
Length of Commitment: 1 year
Minimum Age: 18 years
Qualifications: Must pass Criminal Background check and Child Registry check Dependable
Must enjoy parties and working with children
Must have flexible hours (evenings and weekends) for the parties
Baking abilities and knowledge of domestic violence issues helpful
Work/Physical Environment: Primarily at the Crisis Center, although some of the planning and baking may be done at the volunteer's own home.
Benefits: Increase skills and knowledge through experience and the provided trainings.
Work directly with families and individuals in our community who are in crisis to make their birthday/holiday celebration special.
Training Provided: The volunteer will participate in a training program. In-service trainings on special topics will be held periodically to keep the volunteer up-to-date on necessary information and skills.
Evaluation: After the first three months, the volunteer will fill out an evaluation of the volunteer program, and the volunteer's supervisor will fill out an evaluation on the volunteer. Verbal evaluations will be done every three months. A full evaluation will be done at the end of each year.

Position: Pet Foster Care
Supervisor: Director, PCCC
Responsibilities: Taking in a client’s pet while they are in shelter. Pets may range in size from a Goldfish to a Horse. The volunteer will let staff know which animals they can or cannot foster. Foster care could last anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months depending on the needs of the client and the abilities of the volunteer.
Time Required: The number of hours per week will vary depending on the needs of the clients. A flexible schedule or willingness to work around the client’s schedule would be helpful.

Responsibilities: Assist the Park County Crisis Center Director in developing a marketing plan for the organization. Write and distribute press releases for PCCC events and fundraisers. Create posters and flyers for upcoming PCCC events, fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, etc., and post them in the community. Assist clients with newspaper ads, flyers, etc.
Time Required: Minimum 3 hours per week. Hours may vary depending on the events happening.
Length of Commitment: 1 year
Minimum Age: 18 years
Qualifications: Good computer skills and PR/marketing experience required. Able to work with little supervision. Knowledge of domestic violence issues and community resources helpful.
Work/Physical Environment: At the Crisis Center and/or at the volunteer's own home.

Directly and indirectly help families and individuals in our community who are in crisis.
Play a vital role in developing community involvement with the Crisis Center.
