Volunteer Spotlight
Darlene Emerick has been a Crisis Center volunteer since January 2004. A graphic artist, Darlene created the logo for the Crisis Center.

For more information about Darlene’s business, check out her web site: www.demerick.com or call her at (303) 816-0024.

Thanks, Darlene, for all your hard work!

WHAT’S IN IT FOR US? The Park County Crisis Center currently has only one full-time paid staff person. Volunteers are necessary to help keep the organization running. Volunteers donate an average of 200 hours per month to help out in the office, answer the crisis line “after hours,” help raise money from the community, and much more! The bottom line is that without volunteers we would not be able to continue serving people in crisis in our community.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU? Volunteering can be a valuable experience in many ways. In addition to free trainings and a reference, you will:

  • Develop new skills and experiences through frequent trainings.
  • Build your resume.
  • Meet new people.
  • Get involved in the community.
  • Even have a chance to change someone’s life!

WHAT CAN I DO AS A VOLUNTEER?

  • 24-Hour Crisis Hotline Counselors
  • Advocates for shelter residents
  • On-call client support
    • Transportation to Appointments
    • Pet Foster Homes (large and small animals)
    • Handy people for shelter repairs
    • Mechanics to fix cars
  • Office Support
  • Employment Counselor
  • Legal Advocates/Lawyers
  • Donation Coordinator
  • Database Coordinator
  • Party Planner
  • Other: Do you have a special talent or interest that does not fit into one of these categories? New ideas are always appreciated! Volunteer groups are also welcome.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT? We realize that volunteers have lives outside of the Crisis Center. For that reason we are flexible and will work around your schedule and the time you are able to give. We only ask that new volunteers commit to one year of service with the organization.

WHAT ABOUT TRAINING? All trainings are free!!! All volunteers are required to go through a 20-hour training course on the fundamentals of domestic violence. Volunteers receive continuing training through monthly in-services. Client Support volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend monthly in-services and are required to attend the quarterly crisis line training at least once before answering the crisis line. Volunteers also receive regular announcements about other valuable trainings they may attend.
