We Need a Home!

The Park County Crisis Center/Mountain Peace Shelter is very grateful to Platte Canyon Community Church for generously donating the use of one of their buildings for our shelter for over 18 years. Now the Crisis Center has outgrown the space and needs your help to keep this critical service available for women and children who are in crisis and in need of shelter and safety in our community. The Crisis Center has secured and mostly renovated a larger building in a great location and now needs the community to financially invest in this project to finish it off.

    The Need is Here
  • Park County Crisis Center has been in operation since 1986.
  • We are the only shelter within a 50 mile radius; the next closest is in Denver.
  • We serve Park, Jefferson, and the surrounding mountain communities.
  • In 2003, 34 women and children recieved 2,074 nights of shelter.
  • Park County is 2,166 square miles--the size of the state of Delaware.
  • The population of Park County almost doubled between 1990 (7,349) and 2000 (14,523) (US Census Reports); Park County has been the fourth fastest growing county in the nation for four years straight.
  • Park County is a rural, isolated mountain area with few services.
  • Increased awareness and outreach programs will increase the number of people using the shelter.

    It's All Good!
  • The Right Zoning: Commercial
  • Location: Walking distance to many services; not isolated, close to Sheriff's Office for safety.
  • Meets Needs of Shelter: More bedrooms; good layout of house; level lot; area for Safe Pets program--keeping families together.
  • Future Potential: Oversized garage for future business for long-term income needs.
  • Cooperative Seller: Right party willing to work with project.

    Our Community Rocks!!
  • Over 30 community groups have stepped up to the plate and have organized fundraisers for our new shelter!
  • Between these fundraisers and individuals, business, and other donations, we met the $50,000 challenge grant from the Colorado Division of Housing!!!
  • Our Adopt a Room Program is a wonderful opportunity to create a healing environment for those in crisis and in need of shelter in a very "hands on" way!
    Thank you to:
  • Suzanne Barkley for spear-heading the innovative Adopt a Room Program!
  • And our current “adoptive parents”:
    • Women of Evergreen Business
    • Country Holiday Antiques
    • Conifer Rotary
    • Friends and family of Missy Irell
    • Girl Scout Wapiti Troop in memory of Missy Irell
    • Colorado Log Homes
    • Platte Canyon Community Church—women’s group
    • TJ Wood Products
    • Friends of Park County Library
    • Your name/group here! We still need folks for the staff office
(where much of the action happens!), renovating our SafePets
program area, and for a playground.
